QTV PRIZE WINNERS GO EXPLORING!

Two lucky winners are off on science adventures after winning the junior and senior prizes from the popular science television show, QTV as seen on TV2.

The junior winner of the QTV competition is Nathaniel Manning (right) from Taranaki. Nathaniel scored the highest points in the junior QTV competition. Nathanial already sponsors his own Maui dolphin called Horatio. He lives with his parents and brother in New Plymouth and has lots of pets: a cat, a dog, a rabbit and guinea pigs.

Nathaniels Diary

Nathaniel will be travelling to Northland to spend a week with dolphin scientist, Kirsty Russell (Auckland University/DOC) whose work was profiled in Episode 5 "Endangered Species" of QTV. They will spend some time working with bottlenose dolphins and any other marine mammals that may be in the Bay of Islands at the time.

He will be able to see how she does her research in the field gathering information on the behaviour of endangered Maui dolphins. Nathaniels prize is sponsored by the Ellerslie Sunrise Rotary Club in Auckland.

The senior prize goes to Robert Morrie (left) from Hamilton. Robert, a boarding student in year 11 at Dilworth Senior Campus in Auckland, will link into a trip on 'The Spirit of New Zealand'. John Lister CEO of the The Spirit of Adventure Trust, has generously supported the QTV senior competition prize and the Trust will sponsor Robert on this life changing experience.

The Spirit of Adventure Trust was Established in 1972 by Lou Fisher to offer equal opportunities to young New Zealanders to gain qualities of independence, leadership and community spirit . Over 1200 young people each year are offered the opportunity of the 10 day youth development sailing experience.

QTV is a 13 part science show presented by young people for young people. Presenters Tess, Paora, Chelsie and Barnaby travelled throughout New Zealand interviewing scientists and discovering projects and research into issues around such topics as forensics, marine life, sustainability and the environment in New Zealand.

QTV is a multimedia package including a television series, QTV; DVD's profiling the work and career paths of New Zealand scientists (QCareers) and an interactive website featuring quizzes, experiments and interactive games. www.qteam.co.nz
